UNC Webcams - Home
There is currently one webcam located in the Student Stores, overlooking the north campus "Pit" and one overlooking the new south campus "Pit" at the Student and Academic Services buildings. The webcams are sponsored by the Department of Housing and Residential Education and ResNET. The first webcam was added in 2001 by ResNET as another way to connect Carolina with alumni and friends not in Chapel Hill. For more information on the history of this service see the UNC News article.
Select a webcam from the links above or on the map below.
NOTE: The webcams currently require Onyen authentication. We are aware that this will prevent alumni and visitors from viewing the site. The following information from UNC Public Safety should explain this decision:
"There have been incidents in other parts of the country where individuals have (1) identified locations with live streaming webcams, and (2) placed calls that **falsely** report a situation requiring police. The individuals making the false report then watch the police response over the webcams. As a precautionary measure, Public Safety has asked that all University controlled live streaming webcams be password protected. They are investigating the possibility that UNC could have been the victim of such a hoax when the bomb threat call was received on the night of 2/15/09."
Also, it appears that the security changes have broken this service in Internet Explorer. In the meantime, you may need to use Mozilla Firefox or Safari to view the video feed.
