TLI Multimedia: Work Samples

UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy:
Foundations in Pharmacokinetics

Foundations in Pharmacokinetics Screenshot

Foundations in Pharmacokinetics is a series of multimedia modules that teach basic but essential pharmacokinetic concepts. The product goal is to effectively cover key content outside the classroom, so that valuable class time can be spent in discussion and application. Thus, Foundations in Pharmacokinetics is one component of a blended learning solution combining online multimedia (e.g., graphics, animations, interactive exercises, resources, etc.) and face-to-face instruction (lectures, labs, discussions, group work).

Each of the nine course modules includes practice exercises, a review, a quiz, glossary entries, equation helper entries, closed captioning synchronized text.  The course itself includes a custom graphing tool, scientific calculator, and data collection system to track student behavior in the modules and learning outcomes.
This large-scale project began as a prototype of a single module: Hepatic Clearance, and students began using the first modules in fall 2007.

Pharmacy Management

Pharmacy Management has two modes. The Individual mode, with ten content modules, uses animations, video, and decision-based vignettes to convey key information, tools, and techniques necessary for establishing and running a community pharmacy. In the Team mode, students work together in a dynamic online environment to complete missions, such as creating the physical layout of their pharmacy. Students encounter realistic situations, apply what they have learned, and see the results of their decisions. Also included are links to actual resources and tools that practicing pharmacists use in their businesses.

Kenan-Flagler School of Business:
Statistics Module Prototype

Kenan Flagler School of Business Marketing Analytics Prototype

The Marketing Analytics multimedia prototype is designed to teach graduate and executive students about basic statistical concepts and tools from a marketing application perspective.
Students take the module before class, allowing professors to devote more time to discussion and application of this information. For each concept, there is an overview, an animated example within a marketing setting, and a printable overview document with all key concepts from the media.
In addition to providing vital information to current Kenan-Flagler School of Business students, this module has potential for benefiting additional students in the future because:

  • An understanding of statistics is necessary for many disciplines.
  • Online delivery allows access to information when and where students need it.
  • The module is well suited to various learning levels; students can work at their own pace and review content as many times as they want.

UNC School of Education:
Struggling Readers Prototype

School of Education Prototype mock-up

Originating from a prototype of a single module, Helping Struggling Readers includes plans for 12 multimedia modules that help science and math teachers with struggling readers in their classroom. All of the modules are structured in the same, simple manner and (1) introduce a resource, tool, or technique (2) provide concrete examples of how to use it (3) include a decision-based scenario so students can apply their knowledge, (4) and review the material presented.
These succinct modules are designed to be versatile, and instructors can use them in a variety of ways, for example, in the classroom as part of a group exercise or as an assignment for students to use on their own. In addition, they do not have to be completed in a particular order or in one session.

Antiepileptic Drugs (AED) Continuing Education Curriculum

Cecil G. Sheps Center - AEDCEC

The AED Continuing Education curriculum provides free online continuing education (CE) for members of the American Psychiatric Association (APA). Learners can also earn a certificate of completion for 3 CE credit hours.

With a simple, streamlined design, the site delivers text-based content supported by original graphic elements to best meet the technical preferences of the target audience. It allows psychiatrists access to evidence-based information regarding the use of anti-epileptic drugs for the treatment of Bipolar Mood Disorders and reinforces their knowledge and practice of evidence-based medicine.

UNC School of Nursing
Clinical Teaching in Nursing

For this project, sponsored by a grant from the University’s General Administration, TLI Multimedia will create a series of video-based, standalone learning objects integrated into a semester-long online course. The clips convey theories, then provide specific examples of how to develop and lead a clinical course in nursing.

As with many distance education courses, students in Clinical Teaching and Nursing had difficulty envisioning scenarios described with traditional text. If learners can observe (via video) a nursing student performing a procedure in a hospital or lab, it is far easier to evaluate and record the observation.

Each clip will be approximately four minutes long and concludes with questions or a related assignment. This project is part of a larger blended learning solution delivered entirely online.
